Jurisdictional Amount

In California, a probate proceeding is not necessary where a person dies with less than $100,000 of assets in their individual name. In these situations, the heirs can claim and collect the assets of the deceased individual by a simple declaration. See Prob. Code sec. 13100 et seq.
