Age Discrimination

Federal and State law prohibit employers from discriminating against an individual based on age. Employees or applicants ages 40 and above are protected by these laws. Employers may not terminate, demote, deny employment or other privileges and benefits, including hiring, promotion, compensation and job training to individuals based on age.

Additionally, under the federal Older Workers Benefit Protection Act employees over the age of 40 are entitled to 21 days to consider any agreement waiving their rights, such as severance agreements, under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and seven days to revoke any such agreements.
